A doctor says there are steps to take, as we enter the season for increased cases
Some advice from Niagara Health on ways to stay healthy this holiday season, and avoid the typical cold and flu season.
Dr. Karim Ali says to maintain hand washing, stay home if you're sick, and, keep vaccinations up to date.
He adds there are ways viruses spread. "One, in close contact, during the holiday season, especially during the winter months, when people are in-doors. The other thing is we know that cold temperatures promote the growth of these viruses."
He says they're also keeping an eye on pneumonia cases.
"It's a bacterial pneumonia, and every 3 to 6-years there seems to be a surge in those infections. It can unfortunately put kids and people in the hospital."
He says this pneumonia is treated with anti-biotics.
