Canadian and American border leaders asking federal government to lift the requirement for a negative PCR test to enter Canada.
Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati is among those urging the federal government to scrap the requirement for tourists to come to Canada.
Diodati was part of a virtual conference call earlier today with several other border city mayors in Ontario and New York State, as well as congressman Brian Higgins.
The mayor notes that while he's excited the U.S. border has reopened to double-dosed Canadians for non-essential travel, he thinks the PCR test requirement needs to be removed.
Diodati says "the test doesn’t make us any safer, it just adds cost and encumbers people’s visits."
On Friday, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said test requirements need to be re-examined, and the policy is being "actively looked at."
