April Mullin's movie Simulant is at Niagara Square Saturday night, filmed in Hamilton
A woman from Niagara Falls is ready to have her latest Hollywood movie debut across Canada this weekend.
It'll be at Niagara Square Saturday night.
It's called Simulant, from Director April Mullin, and stars Sam Worthington and Jordana Brewster. The movie is a science fiction, set in the near future, and was filmed in Hamilton. It's a movie in which androids walk among us, and simulants, which are difficult to distinguish from real people.
She says the directing bug came early, as her parents recall what she did when she was 7-years old. "I'd have kids from the neighbourhood literally in the backyard, dressing them, putting costumes on them, writing a play, and then charging 25-cents to all the parents to attend this big, massive, production."
She tells us she's never met fellow director James Cameron, but there is somewhat of a connection.
Sam Worthington was making Avatar at the same time, and paid her a big compliment.
"Oh, you're working with my fellow Niagara Falls, Chippewa hero! He said 'His set isn't much different than this one'. I thought that is the biggest compliment. He also said 'You both are my favourite directors and you're both from Niagara Falls'."
She adds she had lots of support in the uphill battle of Hollywood, filming a number of times in Niagara and area.
