Niagara Falls Considering Block Parents Against Crime

This is just one program after Councillor Lococo brought concerns up

City of Niagara Falls taking action to address crime in certain areas of the city.

It'll be talking to the NRP and city by-law enforcement to look at neighbourhood watch programs, and something Councillor Chris Dabrowski suggested... bringing back Block Parents.

Mayor Jim Diodati says it helps police have a zero tolerance approach to drug use.  "Already they're saying we're having less crime, less problems,  just with that.  And now you see the Canadian Chiefs of Police have reversed their position on safe injection drug sites, they're opposed to them now... I always felt that was a mistake."

Councillor Lori Lococo brought the idea up.  "Last month I had the opportunity to speak with a few business owners on Main Street, and they were very frustrated, and overwhelmed with the crime and violence, and what it was doing to their businesses... one owner had a window broken 9 times in less than a year."

Police are also working to bring certain programs back to the region by winter's end.
