Niagara Experiencing Rare October Heat Event

It certainly does not feel like fall in Niagara.

Environment Canada is predicting a high of 24 feeling more like 28 with the humidity.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says Welland could set a new record high today.

"24.5 degrees was the record set back in 1991 so we're quite close so we'll have to see if we're going to hit it."

Cheng says heat events like this don't happen very often in October, adding 13 is the average high for this time of the year.

He says things should cool off going into the weekend.

"A cold front is fast approaching and it will certainly come this evening with thunderstorms in the forecast as well."
