Local doctor receives Community Leader Award
One of Niagara's doctors is being honoured.
Dr. Karl Stobbe has won the Community Leader Award for the Ontario region.
The award is part of the Canada Volunteer Awards program.
In 2018, Dr. Stobbe created Regional Essential Access to Connected Healthcare (REACH) Niagara, which provides medical service to vulnerable populations.
The clinics are staffed part-time by a family doctor, a community paramedic and a nurse practitioner.
Throughout the pandemic, REACH has teamed up with the Niagara Region to provide medical services to Niagara's homeless, including clinics for shelters and healthcare supports to individuals living on the street.
Dr. Stobbe now serves as the Medical Director of REACH Niagara.
Every year, Canada's Volunteer Awards Program hands out 20 regional awards and one national award.
Stobbe was nominated for the award by Niagara Region Community Services.
