Niagara's mayors and Regional Chair are calling for increased support to the business community.
They have released a statement, asking the federal and provincial governments to step up financial assistance for businesses by distributing previously funded benefits and programs as quickly as possible.
Other requests being made include providing sick leave benefits, and introducing new supports or reopening applications for benefits for all affected businesses.
The statement says an alarming percentage of local businesses have had to shut down due to the pandemic, and the last surviving businesses are struggling to stay afloat.
