Niagara College is taking a huge step forward in training people to work in greenhouses, and impact Niagara's horticulture sector.
The school just opened a $12-milllion Horticultural and Environmental Sciences Innovation Centre Greenhouse at the Niagara on the Lake campus.
The school says it has the latest in advanced technology to help students and industry partners innovate.
There are five individually contained bays, with separate temperature and lighting controls for simultaneous testing in diverse conditions.
There's another room in which researchers can track how well plants are doing with precision, and equipment to optimize growth of tomatoes and cucumbers.
