House of Commons committee studying food price inflation
The heads of Canada's largest grocery store chains have been summoned to testify in Ottawa about rising food prices.
Since October, a House of Commons committee has been examining food price inflation.
Yesterday, the presidents and CEOs of Metro, Loblaws and Empire were called on to attend a meeting.
Executives from all three companies, as well as Save-On-Foods, have testified at previous meetings, but this will be the first time their CEOs will do fo.
According to Statistics Canada, grocery store prices rose nearly 10 per cent last year.
This is the fastest pace since 1981.
