A Niagara Falls MPP is speaking out on Injured Workers Day.
Wayne Gates, who is also the Ontario NDP Critic for Workplace Health and Safety, says the province needs to do more to protect workers who are injured on the job.
"In Ontario today, around 50 per cent of those injured in the workplace will live in poverty. One in five of those injured workers lives in extreme poverty, earning less than $10,000 a year. In a province like Ontario, this should never be allowed to happen."
Gates is also urging the provincial government to provide presumptive WSIB coverage to workers who contract COVID-19.
