Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch says that municipalities are in trouble right now.
Burch, who is also the Official Opposition NDP Municipal Affairs Critic. released a statement after a report was released by the Financial Accountability Office.
The report indicates that the pandemic will cost municipalities $6.8 billion over the next two years.
It also says that Premier Ford has only allocated $2 billion out of $4 billion in Safe Restart Funding, a program designed to help areas boost their economies in the face of the pandemic.
Burch is accusing the premier of sitting on COVID funding.
"Municipalities are in dire financial straits as a result of COVID-19, and they need a provincial partner to save them from having to consider devastating service cuts."
He also says that the premier needs to step up in order to save municipalities from needing to make service cuts to make ends meet during the pandemic.
