Modelling Suggests High Numbers During Summer

The province has released the latest COVID-19 modelling.

Experts say that the current wave of the disease won't flatten without support for high-risk communities and essential workers.

They warn that without immediate action, high numbers will continue to be seen during the summer.

The data also suggests that a stronger vaccination rollout is needed in order to ensure a faster resolution in the long-run.

Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, co-chair of the group advising the provincial government about the pandemic, warns that B117, the variant initially discovered in the United Kingdom, is largely responsible for the province's third wave.

He says that Ontario needs at least a six week stay at home order in order to get a grip on the third wave.

Currently, most of the 34 public health units are seeing a rise in cases, and experts warn that without strong measures, the province could see over 10,000 infections a day.
