Provincial government investing $94-million for water systems to build more homes, and irrigation for Niagara farmers
Roughly $94-million provincially to be spent across Niagara for water systems and irrigation for farms.
Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma was joined by Niagara area mayors, MPPs and many others at Niagara Falls water treatment plant this morning, saying $53-million of it will be for six new water projects. "These projects will enable to construction of approximately 14,000 new homes in Grimsby, Thorold, the City of Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Port Colborne, and Pelham."
She adds another $41-million will be for irrigation pipelines to help farms and agricultural business.
Regional Chair Jim Bradley stressed the importance of this. "Keeping all those pipes, plants, and pumping stations running smoothly and efficiently, is not easy or cheap. It's not always top of mind for property taxpayers. Most of this critical infrastructure is beneath our feet or behind our fences."
Leamington is receiving $41-million to do similar work.
