The 18-year-old won her first WTA title in Montreal.

MONTREAL - It was a historic run at the National Bank Open for an 18-year-old from Burlington.

Victoria Mboko won her first Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title last night, after she beat four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. She also had a wrist injury from her semifinal match with Elena Rybakina, so Mboko had to undergo x-rays and an MRI before getting the green light to play.

Mboko is the third Canadian to win the tournament in the Open Era, and the first to do so in Montreal. She also beat four former Grand Slam champions throughout the tournament, becoming the first Canadian to do so.

On the men's side, American Ben Shelton won the final after a  6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over Karen Khachanov. Shelton is 22-years-old and this is his first title of the season, and third in his career.
