EQAO says less than half of Grade 6 students met the provincial standard for math.
A new report suggests Ontario students are struggling in math.
A report from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) says there have been no improvement in math scores for students in grades 3 and 6 from the 2018 school year.
According to the data, 47 percent of Grade 6 students met the provincial standard this year, which is down from 50 percent four years ago.
Meanwhile, 59 percent of students in Grade 3 met the math standard, compared to 60 percent in 2018.
Three years ago, 75 percent of Grade 9 students met the provincial math standard, but that number is now at 52 percent.
Reading and writing scores for Grade 3 students were also lower than in 2018 but were unchanged for kids in Grade 6.
The Ministry of Education says the scores reflect the challenges of COVID-19.
In September 2020, the province introduced a new math curriculum, referring to it as a back-to-basics program that would help prepare students for the future.
