Community Living Port Colborne CEO disputes claims made by union in strike
We're getting some contradictory stories between the union and management about the strike at Community Living Port Colborne.
Last week Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch told us workers are doing 36 hours shifts, and that management refuses to start bargaining again.
CEO Joanna Mataya has told us to her knowledge only two people have worked longer than 24 hours, during the winter storm before Christmas.
During that evening, the company tried to provide relief, and paid double overtime.
The CEO adds claims by the union they refuse to negotiate are absolutely false, and the union has never reached out to start bargaining again.
Mataya adds they go to their on-call list, use 3rd party help, and ask family of their clients to help when staff shortages occur.
The CEO also says the union wants managers to fill in, instead of replacement workers, but the few managers there are have already been overworked, including nights and some weekends.
Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch says he fully supports the those on strike.
