Some scary moments for people near a portion of the Welland Canal early Monday evening.
Police were called concerning a GMC Terrain that left the road in the Glendale Avenue and Welland Canal Parkway area, and the driver then seen walking away.
Police determined the vehicle went roughly 125 metres off the road, through two sections of fencing, and across an adjacent driveway near Lock 3.
There were plenty of vehicles and pedestrians in the area.
Police found the driver, 45-year old Robert Hill of Thorold, walking bare foot about 2kms away in the Welliington Street and Regent Street area of Thorold.
He's been charged with impaired driving by drugs, and was released with a future court date.
