Man accused of shooting police officer in Welland prior to an overnight standoff last month faces 20 more charges

20 new charges have been laid against a man accused of attempted murder after a standoff with police in Welland.

Last month police were called to Second Street to help by-law officers deal with a fencing issue.

The suspect fired at police, hitting one, who survived, but that led to an overnight standoff.

The next morning 59-year old Daniel Tronko was charged with attempted murder, and weapon offences.

He's now charged with:

  • Six counts of Attempted Murder with a Firearm – Section 239(1)(a)
  • Six counts of Discharge of a Firearm with Intent – Section 244(1)
  • Two counts of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm – Section 244.2
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Section 91(1)
  • Two counts of Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition – Section 95
  • One count of Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition – Section 95
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device – Section 91(2)
  • Careless Use and Storage of Firearms – Section 86(1)

Police add he remains in custody with a January 27th court date.
