It's the first humane society in the province to earn this designation.
The Niagara Poverty Reduction Network made the announcement, indicating that the LCHS has met Niagara's living wage target of $18.12 and hour.
A 'living wage' is defined as the amount employees need to be paid in order to meet the needs of living and participating in a community.
Kevin Strooband, Executive Director of the LCHS, spoke of the importance of paying employees a living wage.
"Our team of staff members is the most important resource we have in providing the exceptional, compassionate care that our animals rely on. Paying them a fair wage solidifies our commitment to our dedicated staff and the animals alike."
The LCHS employs 11 full-time and 13 part-time staff.
