Late Chair Restored Council's Image: Rigby

Niagara Region paying homage to Jim Bradley in first meeting since his death, former St. Catharines mayor honoured his friend

Niagara Regional council has honoured its late Chair, Jim Bradley, in its first session since his death last month.

Councillor Tim Rigby worked closely with Bradley for years, and credited his friend for restoring council's reputation after he took over in 2018.

He said the previous term was filled with scandal that made national headlines.  "The most memorable episode was the mishandling of the hiring process for one of the region's previous CAOs.  I can say from long experience that this was one of the most difficult terms of council that I can remember."

A full minute of silence was held after Rigby spoke.

He explained why the province reappointed Bradley in 2022.  "He was a complete model of political and personal accountability, he declined pay increases, he was completely transparent with his expenses, and he never took personal advantage of his office."

He said Bradley led many initiatives that made Niagara a better place.
