Investment to Speed up Truck Processing

Peace Bridge technology, valued at $5-million, will move trucks through customs quicker

Trucks crossing the Peace Bridge will soon find it much quicker to get processed and on their way, thanks to new technology.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance says the federal government is spending $5-million on new, pre-arrival technology for that crossing, that'll speed up how long a truck must wait at the border.

The money is part of the overall $12-million the federal government is spending at all major points of entry between Canada and the US.

The Trucking Alliance, and the Ontario Trucking Association, say this plan has been in the works for a number of years.

Local MP Vance Badawey made the announcment at the bridge yesterday, adding the money is from the National Trade Corridors fund.

The partnership is between the Canadian government, US Customs and Border Protection, and Peace Bridge Authority, to help the roughly 3,000 trucks that cross the bridge.
