Larry Flynt died of heart failure at his Hollywood Hills home.
The controversial publisher and free speech advocate's health had been an issue for more than 40 years, following an assassination attempt that left him partially paralyzed.
While he rose to fame via his pornographic entertainment empire, he was also known as a fierce champion of free speech.
He once told the Seattle Times that the price of living in a free society is ``you have to tolerate the Larry Flynts of this world.''
