Greg Fergus is the first Black House Speaker
A new speaker has been elected for the House of Commons.
Liberal MP Greg Fergus was voted in after a secret ballot took place today.
Fergus, who represents the Quebec riding of Hull-Aylmer, is the first Black person to take on the role.
In a speech to the House this morning, he promised to be a firm and thoughtful leader.
The vote was held after former House Speaker Anthony Rota stepped down last week.
He resigned after honouring a man who fought for the Nazis in World War II.
