Finding ways to help the homeless population was a big topic at last night's Niagara Falls City Council meeting.
After looking over a report on the matter; Council passed a motion to work with the Niagara Region in order to find shelter space for those in need.
Council will also ask city staff to look into setting aside cash in the 2020 budget, to help fund a homeless shelter.
The City is going to call on the provincial and federal governments as well, to provide more funding to help address the issue.
Councillor Carolynn Ioannoni introduced a separate motion afterwards, to have staff to price out how much it would cost to transport the homeless from the Out of the Cold Shelter at St. Andrew's Church, to the MacBain Community Centre.
She says those who use the shelter will often walk to MacBain in cold weather conditions the next morning, just so they can have a shower.
Councillor Mike Strange brought forward a motion of his own, to talk to St. Andrew's Church about installing showers on site.
