Governments Invest in Train Station

Niagara Falls Mayor says development of station needed with more passengers arriving

Various levels of government have invested $4.4-million in upgrades to the Niagara Falls train station, for GO train and bus riders.

Mayor Jim Diodati says the inside has been completely redone.

He adds the ultimate goal is to establish 2-way, all day service from Niagara Falls to Union station in Toronto.  "Metrolinx has shared with us that they've got 1.3-million people getting on their transportation to come to Niagara Falls.  So, it's an important piece of the infrastructure to get pressure relieved on the QEW."

He also says the parking lot across the road will be done, as well as redevelopment of Thorold Stone Road, Bridge Street and Queen Street.  "Go through a $15-million redevelopment of the extension of Thorold Stone Road, all the way to the roundabout, and then the redevelopment of Bridge Street, from the roundabout, all the way down to the train station, and Erie Avenue, into Queen Street."

He says this is long overdue, especially with more people coming to the area in the coming years.
