Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates is asking the Ford government to toughen up punishments for big box stores violating public health protocols.
He says that Ford needs to prioritize the health and safety of staff and customers.
"When big-box stores present a health risk to employees and customers - including vulnerable seniors - it’s not right for Ford to prioritize protecting the company’s reputation over protecting the people who have to shop and work there. It’s pretty clear to us Doug Ford is still listening to lobbyists and his insiders."
Gates claims that Ford met with Walmart's CEO during the pandemic, and the Premier had been convinced to keep megastores open while shutting down locally-owned small business competitors.
He also says that customers need to know when big-box stores are not following orders.
