Gasoline Prices to Rise Tomorrow

Analyst says the Niagara region can expect a 3-cent rise, but that's still lower than the rest of Canada

Expecting a rise of 3-cents a litre tomorrow morning at gas stations across the Niagara region, and beyond as well.

Dan McTeague runs GasBuddy.com, and says a lot of it comes down to volatile markets changing in the US, which Canada follows right behind.

"The only other factors that go into that, that have a bit of variation are with the margins that gas station charges, and to some extent, variability in the day to day value of the Canadian dollar versus the US."

He says tomorrow's rise will put the average price in the region at about $1.48, which is still relatively lower than the rest of Canada.  "In the Maritimes, the prices are in the $1.65 range, if you're in Vancouver, it's a $1.77, over in Alberta, where there's no provincial sales tax, it's about $1.30 a litre, in Saskatchewan, $1.42, Manitoba it's about $1.55."

He adds a big difference is each province has its own sales tax, or not, which bumps the price up when added to the federal GST.
