People in Niagara will have to pay more for garbage bag tags.
The Region is going to boost the tag price to $2.50, starting in February
It's a 50-cent increase, compared to the current price of $2 each.
You'll still be able to use the tags you already have, but you'll have to pay the new price once you run out.
Officials say the price change should move the Region towards full cost recovery for garbage collection.
It should also divert recycling and organics from the landfill.
The Region says 50 percent of the average residents garbage is actually organic waste, and 14 percent is recyclables.
Niagara's target diversion rate is 65 percent.
