Premier Doug Ford says his government will implement a cautious restart to visits starting Thursday, June 18th.
“We can’t forget that these settings are still vulnerable to COVID-19 outbreaks so we must remain vigilant. We must move forward but we must do it carefully.”
Long-term care homes will be able to allow outdoor visits of one person per resident each week.
Retirement homes will also be able to resume outdoor visits. They will also allow indoor visits in designated areas or resident suites, where physical distancing can be maintained.
Group homes and other residential care settings will be allowed outdoor visits of up to two people at a time.
You will not be able to visit a facility with an active outbreak in effect.
Only two healthcare facility outbreaks remain in effect in Niagara at this time; Albright Manor in Lincoln and Garden City Manor in St. Catharines.
Ford says the pandemic has taken a toll on families across the province.
“We need families to be able to see their loved ones. Today we’re taking the first steps to help reunite families and loved ones in the safest way possible.”
