Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority says due to strong winds in the area, water levels along the Lake Erie Shoreline and eastern portions of Haldimand County are expected to rise today.
A flood watch has been issued for the Lake Erie Shoreline and eastern parts of Haldimand County.
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority says due to strong winds in the area, water levels are predicted to increase by about 2.9 feet above current levels in Port Colborne and Fort Erie, coming to an elevation of about 175.7 metres.
Moderate wave heights of about 5.3 feet are also forecast to occur today, and the water level is expected to peak around 7 PM tonight.
A wind warning has been issued for southern Niagara.
The NPCA also says increased erosion and flooding brought on by the storm surge and strong waves is likely.
Residents living along Lake Erie are encouraged to keep an eye on water levels and waves in their area, and keep away from the shoreline for the time being.
Residents are also advised to shut storm shutters and flood-proof low lying parts of their homes.
