Fire Hydrant Maintenance Underway in Port Colborne

Some people in Port Colborne may experience discoloured water over the next couple of days.

Crews will be working on some of the fire hydrants this week.

They will be flushing them and testing their water flow.

The hydrants in the following areas will be affected;

- Barrick Road area (Highway 58 to Elm Street)
- The Island
- King Street
- Helen Street
- Woodstock Drive
- Frankin Ave
- Elm Street
- Brady Street
- Omer Ave
- Oak Street
- Wallace Ave
- Highland Ave
- Knoll Street

They're also going to clear iron and mineral deposits from the watermains which could lead to rusty coloured water.

The discoloured water is safe to use and ingest but it could stain your clothes if you decide to do your laundry.

It's a good idea to limit your water usage while the work is being done.

Once it's completed, you can run the cold water tap in the lowest level of your home in order to clear the water.

The work started yesterday and it should wrap up this Saturday.
