Police asking motorists to detour around Ontario and King as crews remain on scene fighting flames
Fire crews are at the scene of a major blaze at the old Brock University student residence building, formerly the Welland House Hotel, on the corner of Ontario and King.
Police say Ontario St, King St, St. Paul St, and William St are all closed.
They ask motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
Meantime, The St, Catharines Club, which is across the street, tweeting out, "The Club team will be working from home today."
Club officials also noting the Club, which is also in an historic building, is safe and they are thankful to the Fire Chief and the recent inspection the building was given.
No word on the cause of the blaze.
Fire officials say there were no injuries.
