Social media apps experiencing outage since around 11:00 a.m. Eastern time.
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are down in several parts of the globe, affecting thousands of users.
The outage also impacts Facebook Messenger.
As of 1:00 p.m., the website downdetector indicates over 33,000 outages reported for Facebook, more than 21,000 for Instagram and over 13,000 for WhatsApp.
In a Tweet, Facebook, which owns WhatsApp and Instagram, says it's working to fix the problem.
We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

There is no word on what caused the outage or when it will be resolved.
This comes after a whistleblower filed a complaint with federal law enforcement in the U.S., alleging Facebook's own research shows it magnifies misinformation and hate speech.
