Devastated Winery Asks People to Stay Away From Property For Now

Hernder Winery asking for patience following fire

The owners of Hernder Winery say they will release a statement in the next day or two following Saturday night's fire that burned down an historic barn on the property that was used to host events including weddings.

On Twitter, the winery notes it has come to their attention that people are stopping by to take pictures and they ask people to stay away noting the area is not safe for either cars or people on foot.

No word on the cause but in a release police say four employees were in the building when the fire started.

NRP say all four were evacuated and one was taken to a local hospital by EMS for what is believed to be a minor case of smoke inhalation.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified.

Fire crews from across Niagara were called in to fight the massive blaze.

Damages are still being tallied.
