Regional councillors learned the importance of not inching forward before green light
Some clarification at the region's public works committee on how red light cameras work.
Regional staff confirmed to Councillor Bob Gale a ticket will be issued if a vehicle stops past the white painted line, or if a driver stops behind the line, but inches forward as the opposing light turns yellow to red.
"So, I can see people, and I'm know I'm probably guilty of that more than most people, anticipating leaving early, and I've got to stop that. I think a lot of people will have to as well."
The councillor added this is also in Ottawa.
Niagara Falls mayor also getting some answers, concerning turning right where there's a red light camera intersection.
He was told drivers who do not stop at the big white line, but slowly proceed through, will get a ticket.
Jim Diodati sees some grey areas as he learned a vehicle must stop before the white line. "Because you stop, and then you inch forward trying to see if it's clear. And I'm assuming the technology will sense the fact that you did follow the law, you did stop... and now you're still following the law as you inch your way about to turn."
He feels this could be challenged.
