Crews Begin Barrier Construction on Burgoyne Bridge

They're about to get to work, installing the barriers on the Burgoyne Bridge.

Rankin Construction crews will be on site doing some prep work over the next couple of days.

They're hoping to finish the project before May.

Only one lane of traffic will be open during the construction period.

The project will also close lanes on the 406 at times.

The aluminum picket barrier design will be the first of it's kind in North America.

Niagara's Chief Medical Officer of Health presented a report to Regional Council in January 2019, titled Preventing Deaths by Suicide on Public Infrastructure.

Regional Council directed staff to start planning protection measures afterwards.

The Region awarded a $2.6-million construction contract to Rankin Construction in November.
