A Fort Erie town councillor has had enough with Niagara Health cutting back hours of urgent care centres in Fort Erie and Port Colborne.
During a meeting this week, Tom Lewis called for the resignation of Niagara Health's CEO and its board of directors. "And further request that the province immediately appoint a supervisor to oversee operations, and ensure that Fort Erie urgent care remains open and fully funded. This fight has been on-going for 20 years."
Niagara Health is maintaining there's a shortage of doctors, that are needed in St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls.
Councillor Nick Dubanow revealed a question his wife asked him. "She said to me 'But they're closing these urgent care centres due to lack of physicians. Well, how the heck are they going to staff a brand new hospital in Niagara Falls if they don't even have the necessary doctors to staff the urgent care centre?' And I thought 'You're right'."
Niagara Health has repeated cutting hours is a decision it does not want to make.
