Construction Starts on PC Child Care

The city is changing the former Visitor Information Centre, with financial help from the federal and provincial governments, and region

Construction started today on a new child care centre in Port Colborne.

City council approved the roughly $2.75-million project earlier this month, transforming the former Visitor Information Centre on Main Street West.

The federal and provincial governments are supplying 75% of the bill, while the city has a $500,000 loan payable over 30-years, and $250,000 from existing roads and sidewalk budget.

The Niagara Region approved $2-million in Early Learning and Child Care infrastructure funding, and over $440,000 in start-up funding.

The city says the work is expected to be done next December, kids moving in late summer of 2026.
