The councillor for that ward expects it'll take roughly a year
Construction set to resume on the condo that collapsed earlier this year on Prince Charles Drive in Welland.
John Chiocchio is the councillor for that ward, and says the city has issued permit for the work to start, once a bit of remaining cleanup happens including a few concrete slabs.
"The first step, I guess, is to clean that up, and it looks like, from what we can tell, the trades people going in there at the beginning of the year, little by little, and reconstructing that place."
He tells us they haven't been told by the Ontario government why it fell, leading to great scrutiny this time. "From engineering, to drafting and architecture, so, that's a good thing. At the end of it all, I think we're going to have a beautiful building, exactly what we want on the Welland recreational Canal."
He's anticipating the work to take roughly a year to finish.
