Oak wilt, which can kill trees, was recently found in Niagara Falls
The City of St. Catharines is taking step to prevent oak wilt.
It was recently found in Niagara Falls, making it the country's first recorded case.
Oak wilt can kill trees, especially red oaks.
City staff are checking spots with a large number of oak trees to check for signs of the disease.
Trees will not be pruned between April and October, unless there is an immediate hazard.
Symptoms of oak wilt include cracks in the trunk, fungus or early leaf drop.
