A Welland based slaughterhouse has had it's licence suspended.
The action against Cami International Poultry Limited came into effect on January 10th
In a press release, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency stated a couple of reasons for the suspension.
"CFIA suspended licence #3RWXY8FD of Cami International Poultry Limited because of a human health risk related to the contamination of meat products, the identification, analysis, prevention, reduction and elimination of the hazards associated with contamination, and non-compliances related to the humane receiving and handling of animals requirements. These non-compliances are in contravention of Part 4 and Part 6 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR)."
A food recall has not been issued.
The CFIA says the suspension could be lifted if corrective measures are taken.
But if nothing happens in the next 90-days, the agency could cancel the licence.
