You should not take a floatie out on the Welland Canal this weekend.
This Sunday’s Canadian Tire Floatfest has been cancelled due to the pandemic and officials are advising against gathering on the waterway anyway.
The canal is unsupervised and Deputy Fire Chief Adam Eckhart says it could be dangerous without the right safety protocols.
The province has also banned all public gatherings of more than 10 people and it would be tough to maintain physical distancing out on the water.
By-law staff will be keeping an eye on the waterway this weekend.
