New spending tops $100 million in Trudeau Liberal budget
After unveiling the country's first budget in two years, the Trudeau Liberals say our national debt is now more than one-trillion dollars for the first time ever.
The Liberals promised $100 million in new spending yesterday intended to help us pull through the pandemic.
Federal wage and rent subsidies along with aid for laid-off workerswill be extended through to September for now.
The budget also includes a $30 billion child care plan which will, cut the cost by about 50 per cent in the next year, with a long term goal of eventually lowering fees to 10-dollars a day.
There are some new taxes, smokers will be paying $4 more a carton starting today
Anyone looking to buy a car or plane over $100,000 or a boat over a quarter of a million will pay a new luxury tax on those items starting in January.
Ottawa is also introducing a Netflix tax which will force streaming services to pay the same level of taxes as Canadian companies on revenue they make in this country.
