Mayor Mat Siscoe part of group calling for increased provincial and federal government involvement
There's full support from St. Catharines' mayor to a motion by the Ontario Big City Mayors Caucus in dealing with the homeless crisis.
Mat Siscoe's office says it shows two clear realities... the problem is growing, and immediate action is needed by provincial and federal governments.
The statement adds there's a lack of support for the homeless, and municipalities are left to handle it, while it's a provincial responsibility.
The Mayors' Caucus wants the province more involved in court cases that deal with managing encampments, and more treatment programs.
Mat Siscoe also supports a government Ministry, to deal with the crisis, and bring together those that can help solve this.
Mayors also want the provincial and federal governments to treat this with the same urgency municipalities do.
