This is due to concerns about food waste globally.
The labels are actually used to estimate the freshest point of food, and have nothing to do with safety.
Some worry they encourage people to throw away food that's perfectly ok.
Some major U-K chains recently removed ``best before'' labels from prepackaged fruit and vegetables, and the E-U is expected to announce a revamp to its labelling laws by the end of this year.
