Niagara Regional Police are asking drivers to be vigilant as children head back to school today.
Crossing guards and school buses will be out in force and drivers and cyclists are reminded to pay attention in school zones and ensure they are obeying the rules of the road and watching their speed.
When a crossing guard signals for children to cross the road, drivers must wait until all people have cleared the crosswalk before proceeding.
As for school buses, they will now be equipped with flashing yellow lights to indicate a stop is coming, as well as the red flashing lights and stop arm. Drivers must wait until the lights stop flashing before they can safely proceed.
