Senior Government source says pandemic restrictions set to end at Canada's border crossings
A senior government source who has spoke on the condition of anonymity, says Ottawa is leaning towards dropping the vaccine requirement for people who enter Canada, ending COVID-19 testing at airports and making use of the Arrive-CAN app optional by September 30th.
Yesterday a group of border city mayors including Niagara Falls' Jim Diodati and Fort Erie's Wayne Redekop published an open letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S President Joe Biden asking them to return the border to a pre-pandemic state.
The letter says the current restrictions are "no longer meaningful or helpful" from a health perspective and cause harm to border communities and businesses.
Mayors of 15 border communities in Canada, along with 7 mayors from the states as well as 16 MP's signed the letter.
It's still not clear as to when the feds will announce the change to the vaccination-related rules.
