75 year old woman dies
Officers were called to the beach on Lombardy Avenue yesterday just before 4:00 after beachgoers called 911 after finding a woman unresponsive in the waters just off shore.
Bystanders tried to resuscitate the woman until the NRP Marine Unite arrived on scene and continued CPR.
EMS took over and the woman was taken to hospital in critical condition.
She was later pronounced dead.
Police say while the coroner is investigating, there is reason to believe the 75 year old St. Catharines woman suffered a medical event just prior to entering the water.
Police would also like thank the bystanders who became involved and tried to save the senior.
