Steven Soos hoping Niagara Falls will push for sex offender registry to be made public
A Niagara advocate for the homeless, drug addicts and Indigenous matters standing before Niagara Falls council asking for further action.
Steven Soos wants to see Niagara Regional Police make it mandatory to provide victims of crime with police resources, and prove it was done.
But, first on his agenda, making the sex offender registry public. "We named drunk drivers in the press, but these dangerous offenders against children get to hide behind the registry, that's private, and members of the public should have access to that."
He also wants Indigenous education and history mandatory in Ontario schools.
He's also asking the city to host an Indigenous summit. "I think that would be a great chance at further education of Indigenous issues. I'm asking for them to ask the federal government to scrap the paternalistic and racist Indian Act, that refers to people like me as mentally defective."
He's also hoping for an Indigenous healing treatment centre in Niagara Falls, and endorsement of a community watch program.
