Accountant Charged with Fraud: NRP

Police say a business hired the Niagara Falls accountant, but became suspicious over some work done

A 44-year old chartered accountant from Niagara Falls has been charged with fraud.

Police started looking into some fraud in February at a commercial business, involving the owner of accounting firm Justin Jay Tax Accounting.

They learned the business hired the accountant to assume all accounting services, when the business became suspicious of some practices.

Last Wednesday police arrested Cherrel Monton-Matsugu, charged with:

• Fraud over $5,000
• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Altering a document with intent to defraud
• Criminal breach of trust

She was released from custody with a May court date, police add the business does not want to be revealed.
